Covenant Grain is built on 4 generations of family farming in the Hepburn, SK area. Like many Saskatchewan farm families, we grew up on the same farms raising kids, crops, chicken and livestock and now raise our own kids and crops. For the XX family, it's a love for the lifestyle, the people and the challenging work of crop production that keeps the business in the family come rain or shine.
Covenant Grain grows oilseeds and pulses including Hard Red Spring Wheat (75 bu/ac), Liberty Link Canola (55 bu/ac), Green peas (55 bu/ac), Green Lentils (40 bu/ac), Milling Oats, and Brown Flax.
Inventory is tracked using a mobile app for both tonnage and quality, they can trace their seed for multiple generations back to its original breeder origins and can trace grain from the field to storage to market with exact accuracy. Their farm has capacity to store approximately 18,000 metric tonnes, with bin sizes between 25MT to 1200MT allowing them to maximize their storage capacity while separating between crop types and varieties.
The farm has now integrated harvest weed seed control technology, a non-chemical weed control into their operations for 5 years. It has allowed them to reduce their reliance on chemical weed control, improve weed resistance management and reduce weed control costs.
