At Canada Direct Grain, we load and ship from the farm to you. No middle exporters and no compromising quality for volume.
It's simple - you select the grain quality specifications you are looking for, we source you the right product and supply an accredited lab analysis to ensure they meet your specifications. We handle the logistics to meet your specific delivery dates.
Did you know that grain is transferred at least 8 times before it reaches an international customer's factory or facility when purchased through the bulk system?
The bulk system is an indirect and inefficient process that adds additional costs that are passed on to end buyers.
Let me explain the above graphic - at the farm, grain is loaded and transported by truck to a inland grain terminal where it is offloaded and combined with many other farmer's crops. It is then loaded in a rail car and transported to a terminal at port where it is offloaded, combined again and stored until it is transferred to a bulk commodities ship to sail to the destination country. Once the ship arrives, it is unloaded at a port terminal where at best case - it is loaded into a container and transported to the customer's factory. That's 8 transfers!
Every time the grain is loaded and unloaded and changes hands, this adds additional costs. Every time it is transferred and combined with other grains at a terminal, it eliminates the ability to trace the pedigree and creates inconsistencies in the large bulk batch of grain. Worst of all, bulk exporters add filler/debris compromising the purity of the product.
And just as importantly, the additional transporting and loading and unloading uses fossil fuels and energy which does not support good sustainability practices.
Our Canadian farms are growing highly consistent fields with less weeds and rogue plants. Our grain is cleaned and brought to bulk exporters with negligible foreign materials. Bulk exporters are then adding back in debris at the terminal just under the allowable amount allowed for export. During loading, grain is exposed to the elements and susceptible to contamination from animals.
Bulk exporters also mix grain varieties into one product, leaving buyers with less options to select grain type, moisture, germination, presence of disease, protein content and falling numbers (milling or malting quality). This also mixes sources, making it impossible for the factory or customer to be able to trace the product back to the farm.
Canada Direct Grain farmers load and ship from the farm to direct to you. No middle exporters. No debris or fillers added back. No compromising your choice of grain characteristics, or the quality of the grain. With just 2 transfers, we eliminate extra transportation steps making containerized shipping better for the environment. Plus, eliminating the changing of hands between multiple bulk buyers means higher quality, consistent and grain with tracible pedigrees at a better price.
We preserve the quality, identity and integrity of your shipments by:
Along with generations-worth of farming knowledge, our farms use advanced technology to plant, monitor, adjust and maintain their crops to maturity. With short growing seasons, they navigate the many challenges associated with too much or too little rain, diseases, insects, hail and frost to bring our grains to peak maturity.
Because grain is used for animal and human consumption and to seed next year's crops, grain is harvested from the field, sample tested for quality factors (moisture, protein, weight, germination, presence of disease, ect.) inventoried and stored until there is a buyer.
Once a buyer has selected the grain type and purification requirements, the grain is cleaned of impurities and debris to specifications. The grain is moved from the bin through the cleaner and either back into the bin or loaded for transport.
All our shipments are sample tested at an accredited lab to ensure that they meet contract specifications.
Documentation of each lot is maintained in a Quality Assurance manual along with trackable information.
Sea containers are transported to the farm location where they are inspected for cleanliness and lined with a plastic bag. They are loaded from the storage bin through a 'legal for trade' scale and sampled by a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) approved sampling device. After filling, the container is sealed with a tamper-proof device and returned to the terminal to be shipped overseas.
All steps in the sampling and loading process is supervised by staff who are trained and accredited by CFIA as well as Seeds Canada.
