Dave and Kari moved home in 1986 to farm with his family and established the current farm yard site where they raised 5 children. In 2013, their son Bryce and his wife Breann also moved back to Leroy, SK after finishing their Agriculture degrees to take over the family farm, making this a 5 generation farm.
With Dave's experience and Bryce and Breann's education and the family's combined hard work, they have created a sustainable, agronomy focused operation that has seen 3x growth in 10 years.
Bryce also runs an agriculture consulting company focused on soil fertility. He currently sits on the Saskatchewan Fertility Council and collaborates with other boards and research facilities to further soil fertility research in Saskatchewan. Breann works as the retail agronomist for the local ag inputs dealer.
They test their soil every year and fertilize accordingly and have implemented variable rate technology. They use nitrogen stabilizer products and an integrated pest management system with a focus on soil health, herbicide and fungicide resistance mitigation, and top soil preservation.
Green Ash Acres Inc. has 3800 cultivated acres and produces canola, milling wheat, malting barley, peas, faba beans, oats, and flax.
With plans to increase acres by 20-40% as land becomes available, their focus is on sustainable growth without sacrificing agronomy or ignoring proper stewardship of the land. To achieve this they are focusing on new technologies to improve soil fertility and health such as variable rate technology, real time data collection and better management of saline land areas.
